She was named for kohl and always had the loveliest of clothes and most stylish of fashions, particularly for her Sunday-best dress for family events. She took to it reasonably well -- you could keep your clothes nice when you mostly just wanted to read, anyway. After a while, she got used to being fussed over for her looks and really got to like it. She wasn't content to just get an MRS degree and find a nice boy to settle down with, however. She majored in biology and came away with all honors awards, suma cum laude and a year early to boot. It was in college that she first found that she liked to cut loose now and then -- not very often, but every once in a while she'd get a taste for bungee jumping or parachuting or rock climbing, and she'd throw herself into it for a few days or weeks. When she told her parents she was going to start medical school, they were both pleased and disappointed -- after three kids who were all in dangerous professions (her brothers are a CIA operative, a ranger/volunteer smoke jumper, and a bike messenger in New York City), it was nice to see someone settle down into something quiet. On the other hand, she wasn't getting married and producing grandchildren. That just wasn't right. So even though Dexter wasn't Indian, when she brought him home after a bit of a whirlwind romance, they welcomed him cautiously. When they got married not long after, as she started medical school, they welcomed him more warmly. Of course, med school changes you. Hell, it's hard enough marrying young, but marrying young and hardly knowing a person and then there's school, and work, and all the little adorable things that become obnoxious after the honeymoon... well. It didn't take long before their home moved from a haven to a cautious truce to an outright cold war. Around the time she started her residency, it turned into a full-on war; not long after that, they filed for divorce. Her parents are terribly disappointed, but she takes comfort in the fact that Dexter is entirely persona non grata around the household. For now, she's happy to fixate on just about anything that'll drive her ex a little crazy.
